In class we started watching the movie, “My name is Khan”. I find this movie to be very intriguing because it demonstrates various types of prejuices within Islam. It shows how Hindu and Islamic relations are shunned, which is something I was never aware of until this movie. It also is beginnging to show how after the 9/11 attacks discrimination drastically turned against all those who had a Muslim backrguond. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of this movie and I anticipate seeing how things will continue to develope.

In reading the works of Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah, I have already began to change my previous misconceptions against Islam. I find is the depth of ‘Mercy’ within Islam to be inspirational. I also find myself in awe of the linguistic similarities between the Bible and the Qur’an’s various definitions of “Allah/God”. The article ‘One God, Many Names’ has definately brought forth a greater understanding and respect for the word Allah.

In a recent trip to Michigan I was walking through the Hamtramck city’s streets, small city in the center of Detroit, and during the afternoon could hear Arabic prayers / calls over a loud intercom. I was curious to find out more information about what I heard. I was able to find out later that a few years ago, Muslim prayer calls were being broadcasted over loudspeakers, similar to that of the Church Bells heared around Catholic Churches. I found this to be very interesting and also showing the magnitude of Muslim followers within that area go to city hall and recieve enough votes to grant the permitts.

In response to ilovegood…I find what you wrote not all muslims believe getting married right after school, is important because it is true that there is no way to classify that as a normality for all muslims. I also find it important that you wrote, similar to Dr.Umar Faruq Abd-Allah,’ that marriage is seen as a proof of the existance of God, next to the creation of earth and human kind its self.’ It is beautiful to know that the respect for marriage is still alive.
