Islam students at LUC

Last class was an exciting one.  Not only did we get to go over the syllabus, that was completely original, we got to embark on an epic adventure with Khan.  In the movie, the audience gets to experience life through Khan’s (use the esophagus) eyes and some get to see what it would be like to be an Iraqi in America post 9/11.

In the article One God, Many Names was a great introduction into a faith that I am not familiar with.  I was raised United Methodist and am a novice in the Muslim faith.  The way Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah, the author, was able to three major religions in the world today was intriguing.  The concept of all of them believing in the same God was an argument that I had never really considered before.

The expected Hajj dates are for this year are October 24-29, 2012.  The Hajj dates can not be predicted precisely because the dates are determined by the Islamic lunar calendar.  It is one of the largest pilgrimages in history and is also the fifth pillar of Israel.

Looking at thethingstheycarried728′s post regarding the Wall Street Journal article, I believe I read the same article.  I too was taken back by some of the policies.  One of my best friend’s growing was Jewish and he only ate Kosher.  I remember sitting in a Cici’s pizza one of the first times we hung out.  He was not eating and he explained it all to me.  I can not imagine how difficult it would be to be limited in my food selection, let alone have mine be outlawed.
