In the previous class, we watched the film My Name is Khan.  Being someone who has seen this movie previously, I initially did not really understand the whole point  behind watching it.  But, after reading the posts of my classmates, I realize that from the nonMuslim perspective, the message that the film is trying to get across is quite riveting. I usually just ignore the messages that bollywood films try to send, but I feel like this film is geared towards a nonMuslim audience to show the unjustified discrimination post 9/11 really has affected lives.

I really appreciated “One God, Many Names”. Growing up in a completely nonMuslim area in the South, I would usually use the term “God” not “Allah”.  After moving to Chicago, I feel like I was looked down upon because I wasn’t really super comfortable using the Arabic term “Allah” to refer to God. I’m glad someone was able to so well explain that one the most beautiful attributes of God is that He is so recognized by so many unique names.

I’ve always been interested in Aliens and I don’t know what Islam concretely says about their existence, but I do think that there are multiple concepts in the Quran and throughout Islam that support the existence of extra-terrestrial beings. For example, why are their seven heavens? Could it be possible that there is one for every world? And in the Quran, God is referred to as “Lord of the Universes”, so that must mean that there are multiple universes, ours is just the one in which us humans reside.

In response to Squintspalledorous, I really like how their article ties into My Name is Khan. As a reflection on the article that was read on CNN.com, it was said that “This is obviously sad news that no one wishes to hear that often gives the religion as a whole a bad view, when not everyone is an extremist”.  That’s the whole point of My Name is Khan.  It is unfortunate that the actions of a few have come to define over 1/5 of the world’s population but I really like how this article and the views of Squintspalledorous tie into the whole point of the class and film.
