In class we finished the movie ‘My name is Khan’ and we discussed the different stereo types that were portrayed in the movie. So the big fat African American who has an attitude and sings songs of struggle, to the white dumb American who knows nothing about the world outside his own, and not forgetting the Asian tourist who finds everything around them picture worthy. The movie overall was funny.
The readings we had to do were by Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah in his essay One God Many Names and Mercy the stamp of creation. Loved reading them both because I do believe we all share one God and that is what is so great about God- we are the same. Yet, our religions fight so hard in proving they are different and better then each other. We also learnt about the paradiams of Islam (showing the similarities of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam). I found it fascinating that Islam sees prophets and messengers as two different entities therefore, Mohammed is the prophet who is chosen by God to call all nations to God. He is also the messenger of God who received scripture from God.
In the news today I was reading that violence in Syria is still continuing and there is more bloodshed. Â Government troops attacking targets in the central cities of Homs and Hama and the northern city of Idlib. I honestly do not understand why President Assad is so egger in staying in power under the regime and not just step down.
In response to wclark1 on Al-Jezeera: I honestly believe that they do a good job in reporting world news because they are non bias but when it come to Middle Eastern news they do tend to be bias, where they will show the horrors being done against the Middle east. Therefore, showing it in their point of view because European news would not show it in that way and I actually like it. Anyways that is how I feel.
