Islam students at LUC

In the second week of class we finished the movie “My Name is Khan”.  I was actually pleasantly surprised by the movie.  The depictions of the stereotypes were a bit extreme but all in all, the movie was pretty good.  The discussion after the movie about the three main religions was also intriguing.

I am am not the most informed about the Islamic religion, but this reading was one that was rather interesting.  I enjoyed learning about the prophet Muhammad’s childhood and how he become the ‘savior’ to millions that he is today.  I can not help but notice the similarities between him and Jesus.

In France, Islam is the second largest practiced religion in the country.  About ten percent of the population follows these beliefs.  However, even with these large numbers, wearing a Hijab has been the center of a lot of controversy for over two decades.  It reminded me of the movie when the teacher came to class wearing hers for the first time in a very long time.

Chicagoiscold: I completely agree with your argument about the lack of Muslims in the media.  I believe the stereotypical view of Muslims by a lot of Americans is affected by this.  The fact that they do not have a prominent face gives Americans nothing to relate too.
