Islam students at LUC

BLOG POST 2

Unfortunately, I missed the second week of class.  From other people’s blog posts I see that we finished watching “My Name Is Khan.”     It seems that the director tried to show the stereotypes through exaggeration.  I would have liked to have been there to hear the discussions about the similarities between Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.

Learning about the Prophet Muhammad is always very interesting.  Through the past 3 weeks, I have come to know him verywell between this class and the Intro to the Qur’an class.  I like to look at the similarities between his story and the of Jesus Christ.  For instance, both were persecuted as they tried to spread the word of God.  Muhammad and his followers were exiled to Medina while Jesus was crucified.

My roommate from last year transferred to West Point after last school year.  I saw an article about the school on Fox’s website.  Apparently, a retired US lieutenant general was asked not to speak because of his anti-Islamic beliefs.  It is crazy that someone who held such a high position in American society is outwardly biased against a religion, instead of being a leader encouraging the American people to forget their differences.

I agree with what dotdotdot12 said about people’s ignorance.  It is crazy how the acts of a very select few, who are misinterpreting the word of God, reflect upon such a large part of the population of the world.  God is not vengeful or spiteful.  He is actually merciful.  The first sura discusses this.
