This week in class, we spent most of the time hearing stories from Muhammad’s life, and the signs that he was a prophet from when he was very young. The last story we heard was of a man who denied his faith in order to avoid death, and Muhammad told him he knew what was in his heart, and that what he did was okay.
I am working on the Hadith readings right now. I find myself rereading entire parts because a lot of this is new information for me. There are a lot of words and definitions that I have a hard time remembering because they are so foreign to me. I’m sure it will get better as time goes on.
I was thinking about how ‘Catholic’ my life has been up to this point. I went to Catholic school my whole life. I hadn’t really thought about it until recently, but some of my schools were definitely more accepting of other religions than others. My high school appreciated diversity, so although it was a Catholic school, all religions were accepted. However, one of my elementary schools required that the students attend the same church. I think that this only sheltered us, so I’m glad I go to a university that appreciates all religions.
In response to beatlesbeatlesbeatles on the show ‘Lie to Me.’ Your comment made me think about how often Muslims are discriminated against, especially since September 11th. It makes me sad that people assume that all acts of terrorism are committed by Muslims, even though that is obviously not true. The mindset of Americans will be hard to change after such a terrible day, but it is something every person must actively work on.
