This week was eye opening for me because I was expecting Muhammad to be like Jesus. Before this course, I really didn’t even know who Muhammad was. I never associated his name with religion. Once the class started, I expected him to be like Jesus in terms of personality. However, Muhammad did not see his calling. He wasn’t conceited or obnoxious which probably was a main reason why people were drawn to him.

I was interested in the section of “Muhammad as the Pole of Existence” about Muhammad being a light. The light that  is associated with Muhammad is supposed to symbolize his oneness and closeness to Allah. As a prophet, he was to convey God’s message to the people. He brought people back to the sanctuary and back to Allah. His charisma and modesty are the reasons he was so illuminate and followed.

In a U.S News and World Report article, recounts an incident with a the French interior minister claiming that his culture and people are superior to everyone else. He is specifically targeting Muslims. This is evident because of his comments about his opinion of the law that banned wearing burqas. He thinks there is no place in France’s culture for burqas. There are almost 5 million Muslims in France, and he is blatantly targeting them for their traditions because of his superior outlook.

In response to  alphabum359, I think you are absolutely right when you said “without a foundation in Islam from an early age, it is increasingly more difficult to get back on track and learn what you should have long ago.” I think that this is true of everything we do in our society. However, when it comes to social issues, I think it’s a caused a lot of problems in our country. People raise their children in alliance with whatever they believe. This is fine, but it’s scary when it turns into something like the Hillsboro Baptist Church situation.
