Last weeks class we continued on Muhammad’s biography, and to me it got more interesting. With Muhammad being a leader figure in Medina, he started calling some shots. In a way he provided safety for the people of Medina but kind of stopping the Quryash from invading the city. When the Quryash would travel they could not pass through Medina. Muhammad said if they would pass through their everything they had will be conviscated. He was putting his foot down with his “family” and also the ones who tried to kill him.

This week I read  Michael Lecker’s “Glimpses of Muhammad’s Medinan decade”. This reading has a bunch of sources and evidence about Muhammad’s life that are scattered out. And it is kind of tough to figure out who’s source is credible. However the researchers our very confident this information of Muhammad’s life is accurate.

An article I found on the web was interesting. Malaysians are discouraged from celebrating valentines day because it may lead to immortal activities. This holiday being a day of expressing ones love towards another is traditional, but some Muslims do not want it to be. I found this to be weird because usually many races and religions celebrate this day. What do you guys think? Take a look at the article.  http://www.islamonline.com/news/articles/2/Malaysians-Discouraged-From-Valentine-s.html

In response to pricessprobs, I agree with you about the reading of Muhammad’s religious role. He set a standard of norms and rituals for many of the followers, who believe in him so much that they pass these rituals and norms down to generations below them in the Islamic society.
