in class: We continued the history of Muhammad’s prophethood where we learned about his struggles and strengths. I actually heard little details that I didn’t know before. We also had a group discussion of what goals religion has and what are its function to the society and as a whole. It actually got me thinking and confused about the true goal of religion.
reading: In Glimpses of Muhammad’s Medinan decade, It was mentioned that Muhammad was not a peacemaker and was in Medinah to create disorder in society since everyone was upset and angry. It was also mentioned that he was trying to get rid of the Jews. Both these things are totally opposite of what I have learned and what I know.
related to class: Last week I met a girl who is an Alimah, who, you can say is an educated scholar of Islamic law. She was only 16 years old. She went to Pakistan twoand a half years ago to complete a 4 year course on becoming an Alimah. It was really fascinating to meet someone so young with so much knowledge. She was trying to get girls of young age to see what Islam is really about and our duty is in this world as a Muslim.
response to therealgretchenweiners:
Yes there are many rules on praying but that doesnt necessarily mean that the religion of Islam is strict. It’s just a way to get closer to God. There are certain verses of the Qur’an or other prayers meant for specific things for life that people pray for and also certain ways to pray them. It’s just worshipping in a different way.
