Last Thursday in class, we broke into groups. This gave me the chance to mingle with students with Islamic backgrounds. I haven’t ever had that opportunity. it was interesting and fun to participate in groups and discussing reasons why people have religion. Not only that, but their motivations for seeking particular religions, and their reasons for choosing so.
After reading “Muhammad as the Pole of Existence” I really found the correlations between the roots of Islam, and my background which is Christianity, and more than that, Catholicism. In all of these denominations, a prophet is seen as a light, that so to speak, leads the way for others.
In recent news, a young deaf and mute Pakistani woman told a UK court on Monday how she was trafficked into Britain and forced to work as a virtual slave. Her age is unknown, but through interpretation she said she was forced to work with for no money, forced to sleep on a concrete floor, and sexually abused. Its a pretty sick world we live in.
In response to ilovegoodreads: I agree with you, and others completely. Especially with Islam, the media gives a completely bias opinion of how the religion is perceived versus how it really is. That is one reason I am really glad that I took this class. Not because I had bias preconceived ideas, but rather that I wanted to explore Islam for myself to see what it really was all about.
