In class, we continued to discuss Muhammad’s journey as a prophet and learned several facts about his battles with the Quraysh. Muhammad launched raids against the tribe solely for safety and protection. God instructs that the prophet has permission to fight back only under four conditions: if the rebuttal is out of self-defense, if its battling for the belief in God, if it is for justice, and if the Quraysh seeks peace, Muhammad must oblige. Eventually the Muslims lost the second battle because of their betrayal of the prophet.
In chapter four of Brown’s Hadith, he explains the criticism of the Shiite hadith. A large part of the criticism was due to the transmitters and people’s views of them. Conflict began in order to distinguish the real people from the fake. The Shiites used this as a precautionary measure to ensure that they were only receiving hadiths from “the party of truth.”
Hollywood’s Sean Stone recently converted to the Islamic religion in Iran and is receiving criticism from those in the movie business. Many stars in Hollywood are apprehensive to work with the newly named “Sean Christopher Ali Stone” because of his beliefs and prayers in public. Stone is being accused of joining Islam because he needs a way to discover himself, but he disagrees.
Helloo123, that is fascinating that you met a scholar that was so young, yet enlightened about her faith. I find it inspiring that she was on a quest to teach Muslims about their culture and reinforce their beliefs in Islam. I believe that it is very important to be in touch with one’s own faith because it is a large part of who we are. The world needs more people like this young girl who is driven by her undying faith.
