Throughout our last couple classes, we discussed the five pillars of Islam. I had always learned that these five pillars were essentially the core of the Islam religion, and it was amazing to find out how each pillar was broken down into a moments, days, months, years, and lifetime. With each pillar, it seems like [...]

I recently read an article about a Muslim group that is filing a lawsuit against the feds for mistreatment and for allegedly violating the First Amendment rights of Michigan Muslims and violating a 1993 federal law that upholds the free practice of religion. According the members of the Muslim group, the feds handcuffed them and began [...]

In class on last Thursday, we acted out our skits on the Surah Yusef. This process started out as a difficult and frustrating process, as my group could not fully grasp the story. However, with a little help from Uncle Phil, we were able to get a strong understanding of Surah Yusef, and were able [...]

I recently read an article about a 32 year old mother of 5 from California who was brutally murdered as a hate crime. There was a note beside the body that said, “Go back to Iraq,” and referred to her as a “terrorist.” This was terrible to see that people still have hate crimes in [...]

No class due to spring break, but I still survived. For the readings this week, I read more about Islamic Law. The reading compared with the Christian faith, focusing on its views of the relationship between theology and religious law, and how Islam focused on the Law. I also read “The Vision of Islam,” which [...]

In class we finished Mooz-lum, which was a very good movie about a college student who was abused as a child, causing him to denounce his faith. However, after 9/11, he decided to come back to Islam in order to help those being persecuted, and because he recognized the great faith they had. I thought [...]

This week in class we discussed different truths of religion, and why we believe in what we do. We brought up the topic of Adam as the first man, and debated whether or not we believed he really was the first man created by God. Although my view never changed, I still found it very [...]

This week in class we continued covering the life of Muhammad. We went into great detail about the Battle of the Badr between the Islamic people of Medina and the Quaraysh. Despite being completely outnumbered, Muhammad’s people defeated the Quaraysh because to the Quaraysh, they saw thousands of people instead of only about 300 Muslims. [...]
