Shia vs Sunni and the International Turmoil

Posted on: October 24, 2010

One of the greatest problems facing Islam since the death of the Prophet is the separation of the shia sect from mainstream Islam. The debate was initially only a political in nature and arose from the struggle of leadership and the pronouncement of who was to be a Khalifa, or leader of the Muslims, after the Prophet. I think that today the differences have snowballed into making two separate religions. I think the problems between these two groups will be solved if and only if they come to the realization that they two separate religions and cannot unite on the grounds of religion. This however, is not a bad thing because religion should not be a point of conflict, rather a platform upon which to base your ideology of brotherhood and acceptance.
